Director, Public Relations, the governing council led by Dr. Ike Neliaku has directed that NIPR flags will be flying at half mast today in honour of Professor Keghku, who served in various capacities in the Institute and Benue State University, Makurdi.
In a related tribute, Dr. Peter Oyeneye, fnipr said "NIPR has lost a gem" in Prof Tyotom Keghku, fnipr.
He further mentioned that Prof Tyotom Keghku was of the PR Dept, Benue State University, Makurdi.
He was a former Vice President of the Institute.
We served together in the Governing Council of the Institute from 2005-2009.
He was thorough, focused and dedicated to the development of PR practice.
Prof Keghku liked detailed and unambiguous presentation especially as a member of the Fellowship Screening Panel.
You could call him at anytime for enquiries on anything about NIPR or PR, he would respond and assist if he had the solution.
We worked together again last year as members of the Presidential Committee working on a Nigerian Definition of Public Relations.
Dr. Afolabi Olajuwon, fnipr- a distinguished PR practitioner and columnist in another tribute, described Prof. Tyotom Keghku as a distinguished figure in the field of public relations in Nigeria, remembered fondly for his contributions and leadership. As a former Vice President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), he played a crucial role in shaping the strategies and standards of the profession within the country. His tenure at the NIPR was marked by efforts to enhance the professional standards and education in public relations, fostering a community of practitioners who uphold integrity and excellence.
Prof. Keghku's career extended beyond the NIPR, showcasing a commitment to public service and education. He was known not only for his professional acumen but also for his dedication to mentoring the next generation of public relations professionals. His ability to communicate effectively and his strategic vision contributed significantly to the growth of public relations as a respected field in Nigeria.
The loss of Prof. Keghku is felt deeply by those who knew him and by the broader community that benefited from his work and guidance. In 2017, in Lagos, he served on the Board of Fellows committee that assessed and confirmed my colleagues and me as Fellows of the Institute following a comprehensive presentation.
His legacy lives on through the many individuals he influenced and the advancements he brought to the public relations profession in Nigeria. As we remember Prof. Keghku, we honour his contributions and strive to continue his work in elevating the standards and impact of public relations in our society.
In fond memory of his sterling contributions and accomplishments particularly, his human relations and good nature, Fellow Akin Okudero magnanimously stepped down for him to become the Vice President during our contest for the NIPR Council election during the tenureship of Professor Ikechukwu Nwosu.
Prior to the conclave meeting, Late Keghku had humbly requested that I support him for the Vice President's post. However, in a twist of events, Professor Ikechukwu Nwosu was ahead of me with six votes. In view of his positive human nature, I had to prevail on Abimbola Alagbe to allow Late Keghku to take the slot.
Till death took him away, we remained very close.
The Public Relations family will sorely miss his scholarly contributions and deep historical analysis.
